This painting followed Magic Night, and with it came a clearer sense of direction. Shadow Moon marked the moment where my focus began to sharpen — when I felt i knew the atmosphere and emotion, but also the thread of something larger, something I wanted to keep chasing through paint. It was less about recreating a scene, and more about leaning into the strange, the mysterious, and the untamed.
As part of the Savage Garden series, Shadow Moon reflects that ongoing tension — nature seducing the eye while unsettling the spirit. It asks the viewer to linger in that liminal space, where darkness does not diminish beauty, but deepens it.
I also began experimenting with new layering techniques here, Building the sky in stages to capture its depth and movement. By letting the paint shift and overlap in subtle veils, the moon’s glow took on a swirling, atmospheric presence — less a flat backdrop and more a living part of the scene.
