Gatekeeper is an abstract alcohol ink work on 5×7 porous paper, built on the raw force of gravity and flow. The medium itself resists control, and here the role of the artist is to guide rather than dictate — letting color collide, pool, and separate until form begins to emerge. Along the way, small tools were used to draw circles and patterns into the surface, while an alcohol disperser helped push the inks into new directions, adding rhythm and depth to the composition.
The piece suggests thresholds and guardianship — a sense of standing at the edge of something unknown. It also reflects a pivotal creative moment: an early step into abstract forms and a first exploration with alcohol inks. Here, the power of the drop itself — its shape, its presence — was given a place in the work, forming part of my approach to interpreting the medium.
